I enjoyed your account of the origin and restoration of the Whalebone Arch at Bragar. Murdo Morrison who had the arch built at Lakefield was the brother of my great-grandfather Donald Macdonald Morrison, late of Duluth, Minnesota USA. Murdo's brother D.M. (as he was called in the family), often visited Bragar from the USA, as do his descendants. I was in Bragar in 1983 and was glad to hear of the restoration recently from my cousins Mr. Murdo Morrison and his sister, Lady Mary Morrison Macaulay, the current owners of Lakefield and the Whalebone Arch.
I would be happy to hear from anyone who has memories or anecdotes relating to my Morrison family of Bragar, especially of D.M. who was a bard and wrote several of Lewis' popular Gaelic folk songs, including "Eilean Beag Donn a' Chuain" and "Balaich an Iasgaich".
